Day in Dubuque.

We headed to DBQ on Sunday for a day of birthdays. Both my dad's birthday and my friend Julie's daughter's birthday is May 13th. Stopped to wish Kira a happy birthday who just turned two and- since they've finally moved back from Colorado (great for us maybe not so much for them)- we'll get to see them more often. The girls had fun playing and Ava was so impressed with the "doll cake" she couldn't wait to have a bite.

Then we surprised my dad. He didn't know we were coming and was doing yardwork outside with my mom. He was so engrossed with the yard machine(and it was super loud) it took him almost 5 minutes to realize Ava was standing behind him yelling "papa"! Last time we visited he took her down to the creek behind their house and that was all she wanted to do on Sunday. So my mom and I joined the creek stomping adventure while Chad had a snooze.

Check out Ava's vintage attire, circa 1977. My mom made the jumpsuit for me, it has Grover on it. Did she actually make me wear it in public? How embarrassing.

The girls anticipating the long awaited "Barbie Cake". I'm impressed Julie!

Sorry again for the sideways video, I still haven't figured out how to rotate it. But it was such a wonderful sound, in the middle of the woods with the stream trickling and no other noise- what an awesome creation!
